UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS:

The Academic Mobility of regular undergraduate UFPA students occurs, through different processes, in two situations:

  • In case there is a partnership, through specific programs and notices, between UFPA and the target institution; or
  • In case there is a pre-established agreement/partnership between UFPA and the target institution chosen by the student, which provides for the possibility of performing the academic mobility and recognition.

For the 1st case:

UFPA’s regular undergraduate students can apply to different notices published during the school semesters, whenever they fit the profile stipulated in the notices’ rules.

Each notice/program has its specifications, which must be carefully read and complied with. Students interested in participating in the selections organized by PROINTER must check the Office of the Vice Provost’s social media and portal on a regular basis, as they are the official means of dissemination of notices and opportunities.

Today, PROINTER has the following programs: IBERO SANTANDER, BRAMEX, BRACOL and PAULO FREIRE PROGRAM of ACADEMIC MOBILITY.  The notices for each program are launched in the first and/or second semester, with seats to the semester that follows the launch.

Please visit the previous notices of each program to get prepared to the next selection.

For the 2nd case:

Please access the information about current agreements on the website of PROINTER and check if any of the institutions you are interested in has an agreement with UFPA in the desired area. Usually, a Cooperation Agreement exempts the student from paying school fees in the foreign institution, even if it is a private one (there are exceptions); enables the student to receive the student visa, which will be necessary for enrolment in the foreign institution and for the student’s stay abroad during the necessary period; and enables that the credits obtained during mobility are used when the student returns.

After the student chooses the target institution and confirms that there is a pre-existing agreement/partnership, he/she must gather information on the desired course, like contents of disciplines, credits, specific admission procedures, assessment system, necessary documents/forms for admission, and deadlines stipulated by the host higher education institution for the selection of candidates for mobility. In the majority of times, this information is available on the internet, but, if you cannot find it, PROINTER can help you to contact the desired university.

In case it is necessary to establish a new agreement or to extend an existing one, the student must consult with the Directorate of International Agreements and Strategic Matters, at PROINTER, to receive information on the procedures. The formalization process of a new agreement can require time and bureaucracy; therefore, it is not advisable for those who want to establish a mobility process in a short period of time.

When the possibility of beginning the mobility is confirmed and the student collects all the necessary documents to apply - respecting the deadline stipulated by the target university -, PROINTER will send the documents and will establish the official contact with the host university.

In the two situations:

  1. The student must ask teachers, colleagues, or search the Internet about foreign institutions that have good courses in his/her area; identify the languages he/she masters and the countries in which the languages are used; analyze his/her financial situation to verify if it will be possible to live in another country during the period of his/her mobility; and decide whether he/she is really willing and prepared to give such a big step in life.
  2. The student must read carefully the Undergraduate Teaching Regulation of UFPA (http://www.proeg.ufpa.br/images/Artigos/Academico/Downloads/Regulamento_de_Graduacao.pdf) to understand issues like credit transfer and other aspects related to international academic mobility.
  3. The student will be responsible for the entire process: Providing the necessary documents, translations, payments, ticket issuance, health insurance, and for regularizing his/her academic situation in the respective School and CIAC (Center for Academic Records and Indicators).
  4. If it is necessary to negotiate the plan of study, the student must do it directly with the course coordinator. PROINTER can mediate the process, should the need arise. If, during mobility, the plan of studies is changed, the student must contact the coordinator at UFPA immediately to request for approval. The coordinator can approve the change or not. PROINTER must receive the new plan approved by the coordinator to attach it to the student’s documentation. This negotiation can be performed anytime during the process, even right after the student arrives at the host institution. Any alteration for the purpose of credit transfer must have the official approval of the course coordinator.
  5. If the student is approved, the host institution will send the Acceptance Letter. This document legitimates the student’s admission to the foreign institution and is responsible for the progress of many other processes of the trip, like the visa.
  6. Before leaving the country, the student must leave a power of attorney with someone he/she trusts, in case some unpredicted situation involving his/her documents in UFPA, or banking problems, among others, arise.
  7. The student must request of CIAC that his/her enrolment be blocked so that he/she can participate in the international academic mobility.

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMS:

Regular postgraduate students from UFPA can apply to international academic mobility, following the instructions of PROPESP (Office of the Vice Provost for Research and Postgraduate Programs) and the respective postgraduate program regarding specific notices. Even in this situation, when the possibility of mobility, for any purpose, becomes concrete, PROINTER must be notified by the student and program.

In case no notice has been recently published and the student wants to investigate another way to apply for mobility, he/she must access the information about current agreements on the website of PROINTER and check if any of the institutions he/she is interested in has an agreement with UFPA in the desired area.
